The Verizon iPhone is Official

The other shoe has finally dropped: The CDMA iPhone for Verizon Wireless will be available on Feb. 10, though existing customers can pre-order beginning Feb. 3. Pricing is set at $200 for a 16 GB model and $300 for the 32 GB device and you’ll have to sign a two-year contract.  Unfortunately, the Verizon iPhone WON’T run on their recently announced 4G system.

Skype Adds Video Chat to iPhones!

Holy Bandwidth, Batman, if you thought network congestion was bad on AT&T before, “you ain’t seen nothin’ yet”!  With just one day left before the new year, Skype releases an upgrade that allows its iPhone/iPad app to do video calls.  You will NOT need Apple’s FaceTime function to make this work; any old 3G network will do.  So if you have a device with a front facing camera and the new Skype app, you are good to go anywhere you can get a network connection, like to your buddy at home on his computer.

Skype 5.0 for Mac Big and Buggy ;-(

Skype has made a complete overhaul of its interface for Apple products and added a new look that fits the Mac OS better but there are lots of complaints about the amount of screen real estate that the Skype interface takes up.  Ecamm did release an updated Recorder software but even they warn not to try and record anything important until Skype gets the bugs out.  Remember this is a Beta version and I have run into frequent problems requiring a complete reboot.    Foster Braun
