The Decline of Money

Decade by decade, America has been inching closer to a fully cashless society.
This week our nation took a giant leap closer to that goal with the May 14th announcement by the tax collector of Seminole County, Florida, that as of this summer Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash payments will be accepted by the county to pay taxes and state licensing fees.  Seminole County is an area with a population of approximately one-half million people.The county’s decision to go crypto potentially translates to hundreds of thousands of new cryptocurrency users.

Gary Baker, Ed Rudel, Cal Carson along with Caston Thomas and Foster Braun lead the Tech Roundtable with a sad story about a crash involving a Tesla.  Apparently two young men near Gary’s boat dock, ran a Tesla off the road at high speed and were killed. Who/what is to blame? Can anyone blame Tesla for including all the kill switches necessary to avoid this…except the one that can stop a young man from doing something deadly?

On to much more pleasant tech topics.

In case you or colleagues are following Facebook’s announcement today that users will soon be able to opt out of one of Facebook’s key data gathering practices: the collection and use of people’s web browsing history, which the company uses to sell targeted ads. Facebook is getting the message that privacy and transparency are important to Facebook users and Internet users in general. Giving users the ability to identify and manage which sites are tracking information about them shows that Facebook is actively taking positive steps to protect user privacy. Time will tell, but this may help Facebook overcome the shadow of the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
