Aereo is Coming to Detroit … What is It and Why Should You Care.

Aereo is based on a very simple idea. Many people want to cut the cable cord, but find it hard to watch the major broadcast networks even with an over-the-air (OTA) antenna. Aereo takes several existing technologies and creates a packaged solution for these people.

First, Aereo sets up clusters of miniature antennas in an area. When you sign up for the service, you are assigned two of those antennas. One is for watching live shows and the other is for recording programs. Your local OTA shows are then streamed to a cloud-based digital video recorder (DVR)-like service.

Aereo is planning on expanding to 22 new cities in 2013.(Including Detroit)

MalwareBytes RootKit Scanner

MalwareBytes, our favorite free malware scanner, now provides a free Root-kit scanner.  Root-kits are small malicious programs that hide in unused boot sectors of your hard drive or in files or folders not visible to the Windows files system and therefore not scanable by standard anti-virus programs.   If your computer continues, and I’m talking every few minutes or hours, to become re-infected with Trojans, Viruses, or Malware then you might have a rootkit.  Rootkits can remain on your computer and re-infect the computer even if you perform a system restore, reload your operating system, or use a manufactures factory installation media.  Add this free small utility to your tool-kit by visiting Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit.

The release follows the launch of Quickoffice for Apple’s iPad late last year, when a Google executive said that iPhone and Android versions “are on the way.” The move was also preceded by a February announcement that Google was baking the Quickoffice technology into both its Chrome browser and Chrome OS.  Full Story on MacWorld
