Hour 1: IoTTechConnect Report and Dancing Drones

Rick Beckers, Founder and CEO of CloudTech1 joined us to give a rundown on Michigan’s first IoT Conference and if there was anything that was certain…it won’t be the last. Rick described the multitude of tracks for participants including one track for a group of middle school girls who created a code project.

They were visited by the “Michigan’s Chief Geek”, Governor Rick Snyder who also received an award from the participants for his efforts in technology.

Matt Quinn, president of Great Lakes Drone Company, described one of the favorites at the conference: His display of drone technology from the smaller consumer drones to a massive drone used for crop spraying in Sri Lanka. During the show Matt took time to talk about the many avenues for drones from swarm technology to underwater exploring.

When asked, Matt described the cutting edge of drone technology as the EHang 184, an unmanned, air taxi built by the Chinese and due for testing in Dubai and China. However, as with many visionary technologies, it still remains to be seen if this fascinating bird will fly any time soon.  Read this article for the latest on the EHang 184.

Hour 2 Tech Round Table

During the second hour we gathered all the Tech expertise of our team (from left Ed Rudel, Cal Carson, Foster Braun, Caston Thomas and Capt. Gary Baker). Topics ranged from
  • Twitter pulling the plug on 1.2 million accounts that it deemed guilty of promoting violence or terrorist activities of any sort. Why hasn’t Twitter released the names of those accounts? Have you  discovered who they were and can you share an email with us to reveal them?
  • Facebook Fallout: This coming week Mark Zuckerberg will defend the social media giant’s recent activity surrounding user data being misused by third party agents. We even discussed an article that said that getting rid of Facebook would significantly lower our battery drain.
  • A listener wanted to know how long a laptop battery should last.
  • And Caston Thomas responded to a history lesson about traffic circles from our 80+ farmer, Ben Carpenter in Adrian…he and grandma ought to know!!!

It was more fun than a barrel of monkeys and twice as interesting to get all of our team chiming in on different issues. Look for it next time we are on the air.
