Hour 1: Lawrence Tech University Summer Camps

Lisa R. Kujawa, the Assistant Provost for Enrollment at Lawrence Technological University, joined us for the first  hour of the show to highlight the summer camp schedule coming this July at LTU. Over 500 students from all over the state and a few foreign countries attended last year’s camps as commuter campers and many as live in residents at the Southfield university.

Dr. Jeff Morrissette, is chairman of the Natural Sciences Dept. and teaches one of the most popular classes on bioscience.  Jeff joined the conversation to describe his course content which is highly practical and includes using DNA to identify “suspects” in a crime.

Hour 2: SEMCO Celebrates 40 Years of Computer Expertise

Sharan Kalwani was our special co-host for the second hour of our show.  He is a noted expert on HPC (High Performance Computing) …popularly known as Super Computing.

Sharan has been into computing since the days of ARPAnet. He is also an old hand at UNIX, and has worked in many different industries and around the globe. He is also the Vice-Chair for the SE Michigan chapter of the IEEE-Computer Society and was recently elected to be the SEMCO SIG-LINUX chair for 2017.
The conversation ranged from the early days of Sharan’s career as an engineer who understood IT and became a bridge between the two fields.  We also had a fascinating discussion about HPC and its application in data mining and finding patterns.
