Dennis with GlassesDennis Opoka is a 68 year old Royal Oak resident who has been blind since birth.He got the sonar glasses about 3 months ago and they have revolutionized the way he travels; he uses them with a white cane and verbal GPS for the blind.

Dennis worked as a Veterans Program specialist for 33 years until retirement, is married and has a 29 year old son.  He has a number of hobbies including wood working, cooking, canning, and hunting.  With the help of a college friend, he got his first deer two years ago and has also shot 3 turkeys. Dennis enjoys reading and computers.

Her hobbies are listening to Turkish videos on YouTube on the iPhone and to music. Fatima is studying at Hadley School for the Blind online and taking other online courses  so that she can train to work for the state of Michigan. She also likes online gaming. Fatima will be training Dennis Opoka in the use of the iPhone.

Marcus recognized the achievements of two teams of student entrepreneurs this past week AND Lemonis made a gift of $10,000 to Ferndale Schools.  Now THAT is investing in the future!

Dina RocheleauDina Rochleau is the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for the Ferndale Public Schools.  She was involved in the development of the curriculum for the high school that produced the two national winning entrepreneurial teams.  The first place team created an app called Parkit designed to help people rent out available parking spaces they own to overflow crowds at sporting and other major events.  The team not only developed the software but the entire business plan behind the app.

Ferndale High School seniors Jacob Keller and Leo Sweeney are members of the team that developed the winning mobile application called Parkit and the business plan to go with it.  Their efforts were recognized as the best by Marcus Lemonis, serial entrepreneur and host of The Profit on CNBC.  On Wednesday, Jan. 27 Marcus presented the Ferndale High winners live on CNBC and the students were later interviewed by Channel 7, WXYZ TV Detroit.
