Apple Unveils Back-to-School Sales

The calendar has barely struck July, but Apple is already giving students some incentive to start their back-to-school shopping.

Most college students know that Apple offers discounts on the iMac, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro via the Apple Store for Education. Discounts vary depending on the model, but the savings can be as much as $200.
Now, as part of Apple’s back-to-school promotion, any college student (including incoming freshmen), parent buying for a college student, or faculty or staff member (from any grade level) can get a $100 App Store gift card with the purchase of a Mac.

Microsoft 3.0: A meaner, leaner devices and services machine?

On July 11, Microsoft officials announced details of the latest company-wide reorg, designed to help the company make itself into a leaner, meaner devices and services machine.

First order of business: Steve Ballmer stays on as CEO. There’s no change in leadership at the very top. And basically all the other new “winners” in the reorg are already household names at the company.

Lumia 1020’s 41-megapixel shooter is what makes Nokia’s next marquee Windows phone, and what gives hardware jockeys a reason to salivate.

The Windows Phone 8 device will sell in the U.S. exclusively at AT&T for a hefty $299.99 with two-year contract. Preorders begin July 16, with the Lumia 1020 becoming available online and in stores July 26. (The Lumia 1020 will also sell globally.)
