Goodby Hotmail, Hello Outlook

One of the most venerable webmail services on the Internet just got a beautiful new facelift and name change.  Long time users of Hotmail (Live Mail) got the opportunity at the beginning of August to shift over to a nice new look under the name of Outlook.com.  In this case, Microsoft should be safe with the name since they invented it and now are making it the flagship for their online interface.  Here is a great preview.

"Metro" is dead…the name that is

What in the world is going on at Redmond?  Microsoft hastily announced this week that the name “Metro” had been banished from the Softies vocabulary immediately and without recourse. Hints of a “European client” objecting to the the name have surfaced but Microsoft has been famous for meticulously vetting their names before applying them to new software or devices.  One can only hope they fire enough of the high priced lawyers in charge of that naming department to afford a new one.  Oh wait, why not just call it Windows 8?
