I cant save files I downloaded to Word or any other programs on m computer

I am not sure what you mean by downloading it to word or other programs.  When I download I am most often in a browser and when I click to download a program it is saved to the hard drive.

The only other way I down load is with FTP and that is also saved to the hard drive.

Either way I download I can then open the file with the proper program.

It would help if you could give us more details of just what you are doing that is not working.
