I have had the same trouble and unfortunately windows seems to be able to lose previous restore points far too frequently.  For your future help, on keeping old restore points is to go into Google and search for erunt.  Down load and install and accept the offer to do daily backups.  Erunt keeps updates back 30 dates.  Also allows setting a "fixed/permanent" restore date anytime manually.

This program is far and away superior to window's restore. 

While backing up takes up time it is the safest and fastest way to recover, even a complete meltdown, and should become a routine practice.  >  Back Up!   Back Up!
