For quite some time now, when I go to my Yahoo Mail, as soon as I sign in, I get this dialog box that pops up covering and freezing my email page! It reads that a such and such person would like to chat with me, no one that I know, of course. I can then click the "X" box and then a second box pops up asking me if I am sure; a click on it's "X" box and then it is gone until the next time that I sign back into my Yahoo Mail. If I were to check the box to "decline" on the first pop up, then the next time I sign on, a new name appears in and everything starts all over again.
This happens on both of my computers here at home, at friends and even the local librarys system computers! How can I get rid of this nus ance?

My guess is that you're getting Yahoo Messenger chat requests from spam bots. Try turning off your messenger:
From your main inbox page, click options->Yahoo Messenger Options.
Click the Privacy tab. Make sure that "ignore incoming messages from anyone who is not in my Contacts List" is checked.
Also (this goes without saying), make sure there aren't any strange looking contacts in your contact list. These people WILL still be able to message you.
Hope this helps.

Hi WV an thanks for your post, but, when I click on Options, I to not get the "Yahoo Messenger Options" as a choice. My only choices are under the Options is, Mail Option, Colors, and Mail Plus. In the mail option, I don't see anything about messenger. BTW, I have never ever done any messageing! I would appreciate your reply once again in this matter. Thanks, Karl

Interesting. Though I'm not a Yahoo mail user, I set up an account to do some testing for you, and I got a drastically different result. There seems to be an issue with the forum limiting my ability to embed jpeg images, so I postied a couple links to screenshots I took off of my WinXP netbook running IE8. The first shows The main screen, where you can see the 'options' button near the top:

This next photo shows your choices WITHIN the options menu:

Notice that I circled the spot where you can manipulate the Yahoo Messenger Options.
If you're using mail.yahoo.com, and you're not seeing these screens, and you're running windows or OSX, something is going on with your computer. The fix may be as simple as clearing your browser cache and browsing history. I'd try that first.
Good luck.
