Hi, everybody;

My motherboard says it's okay to upgrade to a pci express video card X 16.

So, what do I look for?  PCI 2.0? PCI 3.0?

Or should I just look for PCI express, don't pay any attention to the x.0, and

go for the most RAM?l

Thanks, everybody, for your help ahead of time.

My first question is:  Why do you want a new video card?  Are you:

Thinking of running multiple monitors?

Into some heavy-duty gaming?

Knowing your intended application will help to point you in the right direction.  Personally, I think unless you're a gamer, you want to run multiple monitors, or you're running software that you know uses the GPU, I wouldn't go overboard on the graphics card.

Thanks for the info.

I wasn't looking for a true gaming vid card.  I just wanted to upgrade what was on the motherboard.  On every check of my machine that I run, the vid card holds me back.

And with Vista, I sometimes wonder how much of my 3 Gig of RAM is being used unnecessarily.

I also took a look at PCSTATS.com and will use it more in the future on purchases.

Like I said earlier, I just wanted to upgrade and I got one for about $50 and a $20 rebate coming.  It didn't rate highly but it's better than what I got.

Thanks for you help, and keep it coming.

It's been a while since I replied…my apologies…

The new card works real well for me!  I'm not a gamer, I just wanted something better.  My current golf game is TW 08.  With the new card, I can now see the leaves in the trees moving in the wind.  I also see birds flying and on a rare occasion, I see a fly or two around the golfer…lol

The especially good thing about all of this was the rebate.  I thought I had all of the paperwork together before the death date of 4/30.  On 5/1, just to be sure, I wanted to check for the rebate form, to make sure I had the right one.  It was gone!  When I contacted Amazon.com about getting the rebate form, they informed me that they were going to credit my account for the rebate-$20.  I contacted them and explained that all I wanted was the rebate form to be sure I had the right one.  By the way, I mailed the rebate stuff in on 5/3.

I got a pop-up window asking me if I wanted them to call me.  I clicked "yes" and figured it would be a day or so.  WRONG!!!  My phone went off immediately!!!  I explained to the rep what my/their problem was and was informed that she couldn't take the $20 back!  So, I'm looking at getting the $20 rebate back in the mail PLUS getting $20 from Amazon.com!

A few days later, I saw the $20 credit to my checking account and contacted Amazon.com again, trying to fix everything.  I was informed that they couldn't do it and to enjoy the $20.

Amazon.com should be Amazing.com.  I just can't believe how far they went on this.
