My HP Pavillion dv7 has a built in Blu ray drive.  It will no longer play blu ray discs.  I suspect a software issue as it will play dvds and cds. I have tried to delete the software to reinstall it, but when I try to remove the software the software starts up multiple copies of itself.  I shut the system down at 55 or 60.  Any help would be appreciated.  I run Vista Home Premium with service pack 2.

Food for thought:

Since you mentioned that this drive still plays CDs and DVDs, I think you DO have a hardware issue, rather than a software issue.

That drive has separate lasers for playing blu-rays and CDs (or DVDs).  I'm thinking that the blu-ray laser has failed.

I wouldn't have uninstalled the blu-ray software as quickly as you did, because it seems that a NEW software issue has crept in.

When you insert a blu-ray, does the PC detect it in any way at all, or does it do nothing?  Does the disc show up in "computer" when you insert it?

Best of luck.

If you mean does the disc show in the drive list on my computer yes.  It shows it as a blu ray disc.  The software hasn't been uninstalled.

Re-install your Blu-Ray decoder software (you have a codec issue). My preferred are either nVidia's PureVideo HD, or Nero's decoder that comes with the Blu-Ray burning software suite. There are a bunch others (so you don't necessarily have to go with what I wrote above).
