Good evening.
I currently have McAfee AntiVirus on my laptop. I'd like to switch to using AVG. However, I want to completely remove McAfee and it's related programs first. I was told not to simply go through the "Add/remove program" tab. When I googled it, I wasn't sure which site to trust… so I'm coming to you!
As a side note, I miss you guys on WJR this time of year. I like listening while doing things around the house, etc. I hope that by expanding onto the internet, you don't forget about us that have 'issues' with listening online… much easier on the radio.. lol my computer is too slow for streaming, etc.!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

John
In addition to your suggestion, which I have used and find works well, I also install Ccleaner (free from Cnet) to check the registry. Finally, I use the Windows search function and check for McAfee and then for anti-virus.
It may be over killkill, but in the past after removing McAfee from a couple of computers I found leftover files on the computers.

You can use CC cleaner because it really removes all the files of a software or you can either try McAfee removal tool.Their are several software available on internet for free to remove any program such as Revouninstaller etc.

No one process is certified to remove everything. Not removal tools. Not the built in Unwise uninstaller. Not REVO or CCleaner. To remove everything for a target application multiple steps need to be taken and they have all been referred to here.
REVO is an outstanding application, but remember there is no backup. I always use it in Advance mode and it has never removed anything unwarranted. However, there is always the first time.
CCleaner offers a backup. It is best to use it. When the registry report is offered be sure to select only the entries known to be associated with the removal target. No guessing. I have never had any concern with CC, but I have assisted others who have had system problems after blindly deleting all with CC.
The common position for deleting an AV is to use the removal tool as it is of dedicated use. Followed by the above reported use of CC and the Windows search utility which are good recommendations.
