I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 dual boot on a several years old Toshiba Laptop.  Sat 115

I connect at home via Windows through a secured network on a Tenda g/n router, and at several restaurants with WiFi setups.  The connection is fast and automatic in Windows XP (media center edition).

In Linux, I click on the network menu, and an Icon labeled Windows Network appears (at Home) Clicking on it results in a dialogue box Unable to mount location.

Not being an Ubuntu user, Fedora 14 is  what I use, I'm guessing your using an unsupported WiFi adapter. Do you know what adapter you have? Then it's a question of supported chip sets. Also you may not get all the features you use under Windows.

I am very new to Linux I have just installed red hat Linux on my
laptop I have a problem Linux is not detecting my Wireless PCMCIA card I have net
gear’s (802.11g) wg511 card. can someone please help me in finding the driver
and also i have a problem with the sound card Linux is not detecting the sound
card as well I have Acer Extensa 2300 series laptop

For linux when you want to open network you need to type command to operate network similarly if you want to use WiFi you have to type linux command.
