Just when Apple was about to gloat over all those shiny new iPads, a very disturbing story of online fraud has arisen. There is a growing outcry about the sloppy security on Apple’s iTunes and particularly its App Store that have allowed hundreds of accounts to be hacked and fraudulently charged for goods and services.

That’s the question that has been hounded the Redmond, California software giant following recent revelations of code theft.  Chinese hackers have released proof-of-concept code that provides a roadmap to exploit a dangerous RDP (remote desktop protocol) vulnerability that was patched by Microsoft earlier this week.

Government Scrutiny May Lead to Lower eBook Price

Just when Apple thought it had a strong foothold in the epublishing world, the government is threatening to break possible price fixing. The Justice Dept. announced it plans to sue Apple and five major publishing firms for price fixing.

Anonymous Catches a Virus

According to some news sources, Anonymous hackers may have had more to worry about than one of their own becoming an informant for the FBI.  Apparently someone slipped the hacker collective a nasty little trojan of their own that infected members’ machines.  Wonder if their anti-spyware caught it!  Earlier in the week it was reported that 25 members of the Anonymous had been rounded up in Latin America and it was revealed that a former member had turned FBI informant when he got caught out in the open.

The notorious international “hacktavist” flaunted authority once too often.  Police authorities in Colombia and Chile rounded up 25 members of the organization and hundreds of computers when the group hacked into the South American government’s websites.

Texting for the Blind

A new app will allow visually impaired people to let their fingers do the talking.  The free open-source app, called BrailleTouch, is based on the Braille writing system long the written language of the blind and visually challenged.  Braille users have shown that they can communicate up to six times faster using this technology.

Sue You Apple

Proview, the Chinese company which originally licensed the name iPad to an Apple subsidiary in China isn’t satisfied with creating legal headaches on its home turf.  Now they have brought the game to America and are suing Apple in its own backyard, claiming copyright infringement.  Proview is seeking to have all iPad sales stopped in the US; the case in China has been suspended.
